I didn’t see myself doing this…

At least not *today*, but I did and it feels really good.

I was watching a review of another blog, where the reviewer mentioned that the blog in question was still on a blogspot.com subdomain. He pointed out that if your blog is on x.blogspot.com, you’re not really “owning” your space. So, I went to my search bar, changed to Whois and put in sephyroth.

As it turned out, sephyroth.net was available. So, I sent an IM to Snoskred asking what she thought about that domain; admittedly I wasn’t totally serious about getting it when I asked, and I was just kinda asking rhetorically. She thought it sounded nice and six minutes later, I’d already gotten through about 7 steps of the checkout process, given them my name and realized something important: I wasn’t faffing, I was just doing it because I wanted to do it; the domain was there, ready for the taking.

So, long story short, I am now the proud owner of sephyroth.net. Now, I have to adjust all my counters, etc. to ensure that they all know that I’m there now. There’s probably a lot more that I have to do with regards to sites that have my blog listed. One of them is my Technorati Profile <-- now that's how you should make a claim, no? 😉 But for right now, I am feeling really, really great about just saying I’m doing it and then *not* faffing on the decision when I was about ready to do it. By the way, all bookmarks that point to http://sephyroth.blogspot.com don’t necessarily need to be changed over to http://www.sephyroth.net because Blogger will automatically forward you to the new domain. Also, you need to include the www in the address, as that’s how it’s configured for now.

  1. Congrats! Welcome to the world of .com! Hehe, I got my .com January this year and I haven’t looked back. It’s so nice knowing that you own it and you can do whatever you want, and you can even look at using a different blog machine – like wordpress. I thought there was no life after blogger, but there is! 🙂

  2. Katie – Moving to wordpress is the most likely next step, but I’m cool with this arrangement for the time being. The hosting is free through blogger, and we all love free 😉

    Snos – Cheers mate 😉

  3. Congratulations. I’ll update yer link and look forward to all the good parts remaining unchanged. And since I haven’t found any not-good parts…
