Values is great, it orients the heart, provides vision, attracts similar people together...

I love marriage too. Even people have so many natural shortcomings overwhelming, but the one who is giving patience to save you from yourself. Maybe it is too idealism, that is why not easy to meet the one in today such an impatient sociaty.

I like marriage. I like that people still want to get married in today's day and age, despite the high divorce rate, etc. I would have voted against that amendment because it seems pretty anti-family values to tell a loving couple they cannot get married...

I would also love to see two pro-choice presidential candidates. I think it would be nice to invalidate that issue for once.

Every time I'm at a NJ Turnpike rest stop I think of Jim McGreevey. And I'm sure I'll think of Craig when I'm in a Minneapolis airport bathroom. Funnily, neither place makes me want sex. Either I'm doing something wrong or I have strong family values.

Cugat

My state passed an almost identical same sex marriage ban. The problem is, as you pointed out, the last line. The plain language can invalidate contracts made between single, unmarried people.

What I took to be overreaction from Criag's party was actually, understandable, totally, if you view it from (a) their values and (b) their ethics.

He was a traitor to their party, actively lobbying for those "traditional" and "family" values. He had to be pilloried at the gate as a traitor to the group ethics.

Their emotional response was from BETRAYAL. That's not, actually, hypocritical, from their POV. Even if it appears so from the outside. Especially if it appears so measured against a different value set.

That makes it so much more understandable to me, and it took me five drafts of my post for this topic to get it LOL.

I basically agree with your message here (and done very well, too). I also touched on the danger inherent in applying value sets to others.

The marriage thing still sticks in my craw bigtime, though.

Great post.

Julie
Using My Words
